Wild Waikawa is an ambitious restoration project led by Michelle Clark and Nigel Muir.
This precious whenua includes Te Maunga o Piripiri, the sacred mountain of mana whenua in this area, Te Ātiawa o te Waka-a-Maui.
Covering a 200-hectare Significant Natural Area at the head of Boons Valley, Waikawa, our mission spans 400 years to recreate the ancient, natural wonderland that our ancestors once cherished.
Wild Waikawa has significant community support and participation with Te Ātiawa Iwi, Waikawa Marae, Marlborough District Council (MDC), Department of Conservation (DOC), Trees That Count, Picton Dawn Chorus, Kaipupu Sanctuary and numerous businesses, local kindergarten and schools.
Wild Waikawa has a grass roots approach. All support given makes a positive difference to help create a safe wildlife corridor for native birds and insects. Every action makes a difference, and there are already significant positive changes in the mauri of whenua.
